Community Update

Hey Members!

The team is working extremely hard to communicate with you, supplement this awesome community online in as many ways as possible, and maintain Work Nicer outposts. Thank you so much for your continued support and your patience – we love you.

There are three topics for today’s update:

1. Outposts, Landlords, and Government

But first, the Work Nicer homepage has been converted into a central resource. Please use this to find Work Nicer updates, information about events you’ve asked for, and external resources. We’ll work hard to make this even better and more valuable – please tell us how you think it could be that for you.


Outposts, Landlords, and Government

Outposts are there for you and we are working on relief for you!

Drop by to print, pick up parcels, have a beverage, get a bit of work done, or for a change of scenery. Many of you have asked if Work Nicer has been asked to close outposts with the latest government update – we have not and as such all outposts remain open. Work Nicer intends and continues to comply with what the government asks us of us.

Work Nicer is also permitted to have more than 15 people on-site as long as all public health guidelines are followed, including physical distancing measures. No meetings, workshops, trainings, or events in excess of 15 people are permitted. Outposts are not open to the public and are only accessible by members via Proxy or keyfob, regular cleaning continues to take place, furniture is being arranged to enable seamless social distancing, and disinfectant for cleaning before and after your use are readily accessible. Obviously you’re expected to follow regular risk mitigation strategies as set forth by the government. If you need Proxy or fob access, please reach out to the team.

I’ve been working at great length with lawyers, accountants, and landlords to determine our best options for moving forward including what kind of relief options may be available to pass on to you. Our proposal will be submitted to all landlords today and I sincerely hope they are receptive. How they respond to this will determine many of our next steps as a company.

Once again, I ask that you please give us time to formulate this plan so that the Work Nicer community will still be here after all this passes. Finances continue to be a concern for everyone right now but I do continue to ask that if you are able to continue your membership that you please do so. But as I’ve said before, if your membership truly DOES become a financial strain, PLEASE communicate with me. The last thing I want is for money to keep you away from the Work Nicer community. Instead, I promise, we’ll figure out a way to work through it together. The end of this is worth waiting for.

Member Circle Re-Jig

Everyone has something valuable to share and everyone can learn from others!

You have probably seen a bit of communication about the Work Nicer Member Circle. It’s a constant work in progress and after only a couple weeks the format has already completely changed – thank you so much to everyone who has provided feedback in helping this thing continue on it’s way to awesomeness.

Work Nicer has always believed that everyone has something to learn and everyone has something to teach. That’s what the Member Circle is. Today, a couple of dozen fellow members have helped with the initial stages of creating regularly scheduled focused topic sessions. As you read this, the team is working on bringing you deeper sessions on all the financial aid that is available and a legal Q&A sometime next week (with more to come).

Even if you haven’t attended Member Circle yet – I encourage you to attend on Tuesdays & Fridays at 10:00 for 30 minutes. Your feedback, input, expertise, and connection is needed and welcomed. By attending, you will directly help design the content and flow of the breakout rooms, have the flexibility to extend discussions and conversations for more extended periods. Members have already commented on how nice it is to connect with members they have never connected with before – like a friend.

Please also jump into the #ask-and-offer channel in Slack for giving and receiving anything. Please think about what you have that could assist other members and I encourage you to trust that the Work Nicer community is strong enough that any of us can ask for what we need to succeed.


Bring The Outpost To You

Need something to make it easier working from home? Need help in other ways? We got you!

While Work Nicer outposts remain open, it’s likely we’ll all be working at home more than we’d prefer. There’s a ton of stuff inside of the Work Nicer outposts that can make your WFH (Work From Home) setup that much more comfortable.

If you could benefit from any desks, chairs, monitors, tables, or more – just let us know. Please reach out to Sarah Kao on Slack or email to coordinate what you need and how to get it!

The Work Nicer Team has also put a whole pile of effort into finding more ways we can make your life any bit easier during this time. In the last few weeks, we’ve spoken to our own vendors and partners to determine how we can extend their businesses and skills to you.

Is there anything around the house you could use some help with right now? Businesses we’ve reached out to include landscaping, carpet cleaning, furnace or duct cleaning, window cleaning, gutter cleaning, pressure washing, and tree services. There’s even access to a tutor (for math and stats), a great tea company called Sipology, pizza from Matador Pizza, and mobile rock chip repair. For someone just to talk to, we’ve also connected with a psychologist as well. Plus there’s more to come.

This might seem like a random mix of things but we are just working hard to meet everyone where they are at. Our goal is to continue to support you with whatever resources we are able to. If there’s anything that you’d like to get off your plate, please let us know and we’ll work to get it done and included in your membership. Simply, reach out to Justin Weleschuk on Slack or email to set these things up – and don’t be shy.

Work Nicer has always been a “toolbox”. Our job is to make sure the tools are there for when you need them – they might be different from time to time and for different people, especially during these unique times.
