Membership & Money Stuff at Work Nicer

More Than A Physical Space

Bringing people together by building a community

In the last few weeks, we’ve experienced many changes together; what’s important to us, how we get through the day, and our ability to connect with each other. Work Nicer was created to bring people together by building a community that initially centered around physical space. Are we more physically distant right now? Yes, but you know what’s amazing? How much the Work Nicer community has been brought closer together. Throughout this time we have all seen that togetherness extends beyond the physical space and this is what truly creates a connected community. For example, this week, you raised money for families that cannot afford holiday dinner; you have vulnerably shared how you have pivoted your business; launched new services; or have been volunteering your time.

Over the last few weeks (which have certainly felt like months) not only is this community surviving, but there are so many ways in which it is thriving. You’ve been endlessly there for fellow members to simply chat about WTF is going on. You’ve been a virtual shoulder to cry on. Most importantly, you’ve been a friend. Don’t discount how important that is.

What Now?

You might be wondering what your Work Nicer membership looks like now and moving into the future. Firstly, we are still as committed as ever to add more ways for you to engage in the things that you love and that are important to you. There are more details about this coming up at the end of this message – please stick with me.

You’ve surely noticed that we spend our time telling stories, celebrating each other, supporting each other, and caring about each other. We don’t spend a lot of time talking about the things you’re not supposed to talk about at a family dinner – money, politics, and religion. But, right now we need to talk a little bit about money.

Money Stuff

Over the last few weeks, we have talked to a lot of you. Not just about your Work Nicer membership or money, but about how we are truly doing. Like you, this is our first crack at something such as this and your continued support is nothing short of inspirational. Personally, I’ve really felt beaten down at times and you are the reason I’m able to stay up and continue moving. Thank you for your patience as we continue to figure this out.

In these conversations, it is clear that everyone is in a different position. While we continue to work with building owners, vendors, and other partners, we have yet to receive any relief from them and don’t have a template offer to “pass down” to you. That being said, we are committed to making something work for you if you need it. This is similar to how Work Nicer has always been – this has never been a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all, take-it-or-leave-it community. This has always been your community, not ours – we work for you. We are nothing without each other.

Some of you continue to thrive in times like this. Thank you to those who have committed to paying “no matter what” – that helps keep the “financial engine” that fuels Work Nicer running today and into the future.

Some of you have had revenues drop to near $0. Thank you to those who have reached out, promised to stay involved and invested in the community, and have offered to help in ways that don’t involve money by offering your services, connections, resources, or time. That helps this community move, adapt, and continue to grow.

Some of you have responded to our communications regarding financial strain. You’ve said that despite wanting to continue to support financially that it’s become difficult to do so in the same way as before – and that’s okay. Talk to me and we’ll work it out. I know reaching out to have this conversation might feel vulnerable, weak, or admitting defeat – but that simply could not be further from the truth. Not now – not ever. I’m admitting that I need the help of this community and I’m encouraging you to reach out if you need our help. As always, membership payments will continue to be emailed out monthly on the 15th for processing on the 20th. If needed, please get in touch with us before the 17th so we have the time to work through this together.

Membership, as you have previously experienced at Work Nicer, remains largely available. Obviously, events and meetings are a no-go, but all outposts are open for you to drop by, print, pick up mail or parcels, have a beverage, and get a bit of work done in a change of scenery. The team remains on site regularly – we’re ensuring adequate physical distancing and risk mitigation strategies are taking place and available. More details are in my earlier message available here.

No one succeeds alone. This is what we believe at Work Nicer – and now we are doubling down on that. Together.

Thanks for sticking with me. Here are the details I promised earlier in this message:

  • The Work Nicer home page has been converted into a central resource. All of the latest Work Nicer communications are here for you to reference. There’s also a multitude of resources for you, like links to previous Q&As and links to government sites for financial aid and more. This is still the early version and it will continue to evolve over time.
  • Be sure to subscribe to the event calendar here. Keep in touch with your community through Drink Nicer, come to a chat session with Bob in #BSwithBob, and be alerted to all the other events available with your membership.

The Work Nicer slack channels remain as vibrant and active as ever. If you need to download the slack app you can click here, and then reach out directly to me or the team to learn how to best utilize it! There’s some simple tips and tricks to help you with that – plus the team would LOVE to connect with you!

What’s New:

Our goal is to continue to support you with whatever resources we are able to. If there’s anything that you’d like to get off your plate, please let us know and we’ll work to get it done and included in your membership.

In the last few weeks the team has worked hard to enhance your Work Nicer membership to now include:

  • Member Circle: a group that comes together every Tuesday and Friday at 10 AM to discuss pertinent topics important to you and your business.
  • Member-led Sessions: financial aid workshops, legal Q&A’s, multiple marketing workshops with more to come.
  • New Slack Channels:
    •  #ask-and-offer is a channel where members can ask for services or offer services to support each other during the pandemic.
    • #good-news is a spot where members are sharing their wins or overall good stories. We all know that times are tough right now, but this channel should help us realize that good things are still happening!
  • Complimentary “Work From Home” Setup: This is the chance to bring the outposts to you. Let us know what desks, chairs, monitors, or other supplies you need from Work Nicer to take home and get through this.
  • Other services: we’ve spoken to our own vendors and partners to determine how we can extend their businesses and skills to you including landscaping, carpet cleaning, furnace or duct cleaning, window cleaning, gutter cleaning, pressure washing, and tree services. There’s even access to a tutor (for math and stats), a great tea company called Sipology, pizza from Matador Pizza, and mobile rock chip repair. For someone just to talk to, we’ve also connected with a psychologist as well. Plus there’s more to come. Get in touch with Justin to take advantage of any of these services.

Many of you have said that right now you’ve truly realized how valuable Work Nicer is to you. You are an important part of this community, you are valued, and you are cared about. We are so thankful for your continued contribution to this community.
